IT PROJECT EXPERIENCE

'07 - present IT-entrepreneur, Axízo, Groningen.

Company : Axízo
Location: Groningen.

Started up my own one-man IT-company. The main focus is to develop a simulation package and intelligent sensors for the automotive industry. Currently, this is a part-time enterpreneurship alongside my work in Atos Origin.

'05 - '07 Senior programmeur J2EE/java, Gasunie, Groningen.

Company : Atos Origin
Location: Groningen.

Development and maintenance of a J2EE web application, for the web as well as the server part. The application registers and initiates all gas transports through the netwerk of the Gasunie. This is a company-critical 24x7 system, and of great importance to the Gasunie.

The system runs on a pair of Windows-servers in a cluster. There are two separate locations for failover. De java application run in a SunOne J2EE container. Most business logic is implemented in PL/SQL in the Oracle 9i database.

'05 - present Java Consultant, Atos Origin, Groningen.

Company : Atos Origin
Location: Groningen.

Hired as consultant for contracting work, most notably the job above. Developed and gave a workshop for learning programmers the basics of the Unix environment. Active in the Expertise Group Open Source.

'03 - '05 Senior programmer java/J2EE , C and other, MediaMessage BV, Groningen.

Location: Groningen.

Several projects using java/J2EE, PHP and C on FreeBSD. Various projects:

  1. Ipv6 Multicast tunnelling application, for streaming of sound through telephone lines. De application runs mainly as kernel code under FreeBSD. Written in C and netgraph.
  2. CRM- en Planningssystem for MartiniPlaza. Webapplication written in java/JSP, Postgres database.
  3. SMS application for the 4Mijl run in Groningen. Users subscribe to runner's number and recieve the runner's interim times via SMS. Java/JSP Servlets and standalone java server.
  4. Application for letting hitchhikers and driver get in touch with each other. Written in PHP, runs on Apache/Linux.

'02 - '03 Senior developer java/JSP, Topficie Noord-Nederland, Groningen.

Various projects:

  1. Development in java for billing automation. . J2EE Beans runnning in JBoss with a JSP/Servlet front-end running on Tomcat, using a MySQL database.
  2. Administration of a human resources website for ABN-AMRO. Java/JSP application on Linux with a Oracle 7 database. Tools: Tomcat, RedHat Linux 7.3, Oracle Administratie tools such as SQLPlus.

'01 - '04 Maintenance website of insurance company, Beon, Groningen.

Contracting work for 1 day per two weeks. General maintenance of the website. Tools: NetObjects Fusion.

'01 - '02 Senior consultant J2EE and java programming, Topficie e-Knowvation, Groningen.

Development of SMS platform. This distributed system for mobile communication provides bulk sending of SMS, ringtones, logo's and other mobile formats as services.

These services can be easily integrated into web applications. The application consists of enterprise beans built using java and J2EE technology with a core architecture based on jBoss, Tomcat and mySQL. The system runs distributed on several Linux servers. I managed and further developed the system until july 2004.

'01 - '01 Team Lead Visual Basic developers team, KPN, Groningen.

Company : Digimaster Informatica BV (Amstelveen)
Location: Contracted by Softwarehuis (KPN) in Groningen.

Management position in the project mentioned below as team leader. Responsible for the team of VB programmers building the client front-end of a multi-tier application. Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Coordination and planning of activities of programming team
  • Progress reporting
  • Evaluation of team members, contact person for field managers, inteviewing potential new project members
  • Participation in operational meetings
  • Coaching of team members
'99 - '00 Technical Coordinator and backup Project Lead, KPN, Groningen.

New position in the project mentioned below . Personal tasks and responsibilities:

  • Change management of the library components of the project

'98 - '99 Visual Basic Programmer, KPN, Groningen.

Company : Digimaster Informatica BV (Amstelveen)
Location: Contracted by Softwarehuis (KPN) in Groningen.

Work on project basis on a multi-tier client-server system consisting of an Oracle database, ACMS transaction server and a Visual Basic front end. The client software was ported to a 32-bits NT architecture and new functionality was added. In the process the 16-bits VB 3.0 code was converted to 32-bits code for VB 6.0. The system will be used for the administration of the nationwide fibre optics cable, with the following specific goals:

  • Fast and effective solution of malfunctions
  • Maintenance of the components in the network
  • Support for the design and planning for new network segments
'96 - '98 Senior C++ programmer, Lost Boys, Brussels.

I was offered the possibility to help in starting up a daughter company of Lost Boys in Brussels and I eagerly took up the challenge. The emphasis of our work is on combining multimedia with the Internet.

Various Projects:
  • Application for learning French on the Internet, aimed at British students.
  • CD-Rom catalogue for distributors of glasses and frames, with online ordering capability and stock information.
'95 - '96 C++ programmer, Lost Boys, Amsterdam.

Worked on assorted projects with a special emphasis on multimedia applications for Cdi players and PC's.

  • Multi-user on-line virtual world; Client/server Internet application.
  • CDi/CD-Rom catalogue of office furniture manufacturers in the Netherlands.
  • Commercial CD-Rom title containing reference material for Dutch billboard charts.

Participated in a project for updating a distributed computing application based around an Oracle 7 database.

'92- '93 Military service, Dutch Army, Germany.

Ranked as corporal in the Army Intelligence Service.

During this time I have placed special emphasis on keeping my computing knowledge up to date. I have developed some personal projects, such as an object-oriented, 3-D polygon animation package in C++.

'91 - '92 Software development for graduation work, Delft University.

Combined simulation, data acquisition and graphics processing package for use with a RHEED/MBE set-up used at the Delft University. Written in C, with some 80386 assembly programming.

'90 - '91 Software development for Stichting Carnaval do Rio, The Hague.

Application for handling table reservations. This application maintains a database of guests and transactions, and assigns seats by means of a visual user interface. Written in Pascal, uses standard DBase files.

'88 - '89 Development of DEXTRA ("Delft X-Ray Tracing"), Delft University.

DEXTRA is a diffractometer simulation package used by Philips. Due to this project I co-founded a software company with a fellow student (IF&S Software, Santpoort,Holland).
